Casa de Campo: Luxury That’s More Affordable Than You Think

Writer's picture: Jessica VidesJessica Vides

For the longest time, I thought Casa de Campo, near the city of La Romana in the Dominican Republic, was an ultra-exclusive playground for the rich and famous—somewhere completely out of my budget. I pictured luxury villas, yachts, and golf courses where only celebrities and billionaires could step foot. The truth is, us normal people can also enjoy Casa de Campo, and I’ve now been a few times without spending a fortune. Want to know how? Keep reading.

WHAT MAKES CASA DE CAMPO A DESTINATION?

Casa de Campo isn’t just a resort—it’s its own world. It has everything: a supermarket, a movie theater, restaurants, a private beach, a marina, multiple pools, and some of the best golf courses in the Caribbean (seriously, golf is huge here). It’s a gated, secure community where you can walk around freely and soak up the luxury without worrying about a thing.

Then there’s Altos de Chavón, perched on the cliffs overlooking the Chavón River with stunning views. This replica of a 16th-century Mediterranean village is packed with shops, restaurants, cobblestone streets, and an amphitheater where legends have performed.

Pro tip: Visit Altos de Chavón in the morning before the shops open and walk to the river view. If you’re lucky, you might spot stingrays swimming upstream to feed.

Budget-Friendly Accommodations at Casa de Campo

  1. Book a Room at the Casa de Campo Hotel

Most people assume that staying at Casa de Campo means renting a massive villa with staff. And while those are amazing (especially if you’re splitting costs with friends), the resort also offers standard rooms. Check out their offer page for seasonal deals.

TravelZoo sometimes has deals where you can stay 3 nights for as little as $699, including the daily $25 resort fee per person, giving you access to all amenities.

  2. Rent a Room from a Private Residence

This is our ultimate Casa de Campo travel hack.  There’s an Airbnb host within Casa de Campo who rents out private rooms in their residence. Each room has a small kitchenette, a private bathroom, and a separate entrance, giving you a quiet, budget-friendly stay with complete privacy.

We’ve stayed here multiple times and highly recommend it! The host offers four rooms, starting at $95 per night. It’s not a luxury resort, but it’s comfortable, affordable, and just a five-minute walk to Altos de Chavón. Perfect for couples or small groups looking to experience Casa de Campo without the hefty price tag. Check out the listings here.

Find Villa Rentals with Perks | If you’re traveling with a group, renting a villa via Airbnb can actually be cheaper than a high-end hotel elsewhere. Many villas come with their own private staff, a golf cart for getting around, and access to everything the resort offers. Break down the cost per room, and you’ll be surprised at how affordable a luxury villa can be for your group.

  • Pro Tip: Visiting for the Day

If you’re just passing through and want to experience Casa de Campo without staying overnight, you can simply pay the $25 per person resort fee* and spend the day exploring. Since there’s a grocery store on-site, stock up on snacks, drinks, and easy-to-prepare meals to enjoy at your rental. It’s a fun, budget-friendly way to enjoy a meal with a view.
